Onward Gameplay
Now, let’s get to the exciting part – the gameplay! Onward offers solo modes, co-op, 10-player competitive online multiplayer, and even cross-play with PC. It’s a slow-paced shooter that requires effective communication and careful strategy. The gradual build-up of missions keeps you on your toes, and the evac at the end of each mission is truly heart-racing.
In our gameplay session, we used the Pro Tube, a lightweight accessory that enhances the immersion and adds that extra level of realism to the experience. However, it may take newcomers some time to get used to the reloading mechanics.
The Quest Port
While Onward on the Oculus Quest offers a thrilling gameplay experience, it’s worth noting that the visuals have taken a hit in the port from PC to Quest. Some frame drops, rough pop-in textures, and low-quality close-up models were noticeable during our playthrough. Additionally, the reduced field of view when hearing gunshots or being shot made it hard to distinguish between the two.
We hope that Downpour Interactive, the developers behind Onward, can find a better way to address these issues in future updates. Nevertheless, the intense and tactical gameplay that Onward is known for remains intact on the Quest.
