In this article, I will share my hands-on experience, delve into the game’s mysteries, and provide my first impressions.

Unveiling the Enigma of Shadow Point

Imagine yourself transported to the stunning Shadow Point Observatory, a place that holds much more than meets the eye. As I entered this mysterious realm, I stumbled upon the disappearance of Lorna McCabe, a young girl who vanished 12 years ago, coinciding with the eruption of tremors.

But here’s the twist—Lorna McCabe is not lost to the world. She lives on in Shadow Point. Armed with this knowledge, I embarked on a mind-bending journey filled with captivating puzzles and enigmatic discoveries.

Unraveling the Shadows, One Puzzle at a Time

The first puzzle awaited, as I encountered a bird silhouette in the distance. To progress, I had to manipulate the light or the bird to achieve the perfect alignment. The freedom to explore every nook and cranny of the virtual environment added to the excitement, as I reveled in the joy of unlocking hidden secrets.

The unique gameplay mechanic involved holding a ball and using its light to create the corresponding silhouette, cleverly manipulating it in real-time to achieve the desired size. It was like playing with shadow puppets as a child – pure delight!

Delving Deeper into the Shadows

As my journey continued, I discovered an intriguing mirror and a cube. Using these objects in tandem, I had to create a pan and align them perfectly to bring my image to life. It felt as if I was playing with shadows in the most magical way imaginable. The game cleverly challenged my perspective, as I had to rely on reflections to progress further.

Moving through the game, I encountered a series of mind-boggling puzzles, each requiring precise movements and a keen eye for detail. With every twist and turn, I felt a sense of accomplishment and an overwhelming desire to explore more of this captivating world.

The Masterminds Behind Shadow Point

The narrative designer of Shadow Point, Tom Davis, shared his insights into the captivating storyline centered around Lorna McCabe’s disappearance. Guided by the journal of geologist Edgar Mansfield, players assume the role of Alex Burkett, embarking on a quest to uncover the truth within the shadowy confines of the Observatory atop the mountain called Shadow Point.

An unexpected surprise was the inclusion of renowned actor Rytis Zemkauskas, lending his voice to the character of Edgar Mansfield. The excitement of working with such incredible talent was tempered by the uncertainty of securing their involvement. However, after months of anticipation, having Rytis in the studio brought the project to life, elevating the storytelling to new heights.

Evolution of Shadow Point on Oculus Quest

The team at Coatsink, headed by junior producer Sarah Wilson, was delighted to bring Shadow Point to the Oculus Quest. Building upon their strong relationship with Oculus, they embraced the opportunity to create a fresh puzzle game that maximized the technological advancements of the device.

The team’s dedication to providing players with more freedom and choice in solving puzzles is evident, allowing for a more personalized and immersive experience.

As I concluded my demo, my curiosity was piqued, and I yearned to uncover more of Lorna’s story and further explore the captivating environments that lay ahead.
